He's home!

I know you didn't know my dear husband was out of town. I decided not to post such information. I get scared enough as it is, I sure didn't want to advertise the information.

Yes, you read correctly, I get scared. Before we had children, and well, even after Samuel was born, I would stay with a friend of mine when Stephen was gone overnight. When we moved from that town I didn't have anyone to stay with, so I would just sit up and watch tv all night. Fear kept me awake.
Isn't that silly? Well, it didn't seem so at the time, but when I look back on it now it seems silly. That is until I have to be without a manly-man in the house. I'm telling you what, I hear every noise, sound, creak, croak. It's awful.
Sunday night (the first night) while I was lying AWAKE in my bed I was praying and telling God that I knew He didn't want me to be fearful and that I knew there were many verses in the Bible that told of His being with me at nighttime. I just couldn't think of any. I couldn't recall any verse!! Do you know why? Yes, you guessed it, because I had not ever chosen to memorize any. So, I am now memorizing 3 verses. My favorite being Psalm 4:8 I will lie down and sleep in peace for you alone, O Lord make me dwell in safety.
My man will be leaving in just a couple of weeks for another trip and I plan to have these verses memorized and ready to face the night with me!
Isn't it wonderful that we don't have to face those scary nights alone. I'm so glad to have a God that is my Protector.

I struggle with fear also. I usually fall asleep with the tv on if Clayton is gone! (Which, thankfully, is very rare!)

I do the same thing. Not to add to your fear, but I am always afraid the lights are going to go out while Roger is gone. So, I sleep w/ the flashlight, the phone, and my cell phone just in case....sad I know. I need to memorize those verses too!

Lindsey- I'm pretty sure I would have a prescription for ambien or lunesta or maybe both!! I would take some tylenol pm if I didn't have kids. I'm afraid I wouldn't wake up if they needed me.

Julie, you are afraid for naught.
My grandson Sam will beat the living daylights out of anyone who dares come into your home without an invitation. He is big and bad and a very strong lad.

I have never like staying by myself either. When we lived in NJ..Big D would plow snow and would be gone at night - sometimes a couple of nights in a row. I eventually got used to it..but at first I was very fearful of staying alone. Having dogs in the house gives me a little comfort!

I have stayed by myself here in the boonies when Big D went to work in LA..and I wasn't fearful at all. Probably the first time ever, I guess the older I get the less I worry about it. Although I still don't like staying home without him esp. at night. I do know I could handle it now!

Next time if you're scared - just call me! I'd be glad to join you for a sleepover - I'll even bring a couple of kids with me! LOL
I sure am glad to know that I'm not the only one who is scared when their husband is out of town. I usually curl up on the couch and watch t.v. until 3 or 4 in the morning when I cannot hold my eyes open any longer. But, I stay on the couch so that I will be the first to know if someone breaks in....smart, huh? I need to learn the verse you are learning, so do share them with me :)

When my husband travels, I also stay up all night watching TV. A couple of years ago he did a part-time overseas assignment (3 weeks home, 3 weeks gone) for an entire year. I was a walking zombie:) We do not have any children and had only a cat as a pet-which hears many things humans don't hear-freaky at times:) We live in the country and our neighbors are not close. Now when he travels, it is usually one week at a time. Thank you, Lord! I will take your advice and begin memorizing Bible verses too. I will pray for you!
Thanks for sharing.

It helps to see that there are many of us out there who are in the same boat! Matt travels A LOT, and yes... I'm still scared every single night that he is gone. I've learned that with one tylenol pm, I can still manage the kids when I need to but it helps me fall back asleep when I wake up. I think it's psychological for me more than anything... However, when he is gone for long periods of time I don't take anything for fear of getting hooked. I like to keep the cell phone by my bed as well.

A Blind Date & Leaving Comments

8 years ago today I met this sweet man in the picture above. We met on a blind date in the Bluff City (aka- Memfrica). He and I were simply going out to shut up his stepmother and my sister, who had decided that we were meant to be together from one simple fridge photo and a dog named Abby. Little did we know they would be able to pat themselves on the back for the rest of their lives . I am so glad we both agreed to go out for that one date on New Years Eve 2001 because I have had him in my life everyday since that crazy night at my cousin Hollye's back door when he arrived to pick me up to find a baby on my hip that he thought was mine. I remember those beautiful blue eyes and how they about popped out of his head as he stood at the door wondering why no one had mentioned my child. That baby on my hip was Claire. She was 1 then and had just gone number 2 in her diaper right before he rang the bell. She had Styrofoam all over her and me from playing in Christmas boxes. Needless t

All Aboard The Birthday Polar Express

Can you believe Henry Patton will be 4 years old tomorrow?! Neither can we. We celebrated his birthday last weekend with his first all boy party, polar express style. I had so much fun preparing for it, as you can probably tell! My mother who is never at a loss for words said it looked like Polar Express threw up in my house. She was SO right and we loved it! We had a breakfast pajama party with 7 three and four year old boys. It was such a fun time.   I had his pajamas monogrammed with a train and his name. He loved them and I liked how they sort of looked like the ones on the movie. Henry loved all the bells I had everywhere. There is no doubt we believe at this house. We had the jingle loud and proud!   I had his invitation made from a shop on Etsy and I was very pleased with them. One of his little friends came to the door ready for me to punch his ticket. It was so cute. I ran to get a hole punch and punched it for him. Every good party has to have go

Pedicure Pledge

Just a friendly reminder, it's that time of the year again. Please raise your big toes and repeat after me: As a member of the Sandal Sisterhood, I pledge to follow The Rules when I wear sandals and other open-toe shoes: I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps. I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow. I will shave the hairs off my big toe. I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there. If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back in to place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. No matter how much it hurts. I will
