It's Julia's Day

Happy Birthday to my older, stylish, sweet and sassy sister! Julia, I hope you have a blessed day because you being on this earth is a blessing to all of us. It is a joy to know Mama bonded us together in her womb and then Daddy chose to make us sisters...sisters that hold tighter than crazy glue! It makes me smile to know you are another year older and wiser than me and there is not a thing you can do about it! Join me in wishing a HAPPY, HAPPY day to my favorite and most beautiful sister, Julia Kathryn (Or you can just call her Julie ) with a little celebration, Bobby Sherman style! I used to play this record (yes, a record) when she married and moved out when I was 15. I would cry and hyperventilate because I missed her so bad. I have always loved that girl! Abby

The Sister Bond

Aren't we just the cutest things?!! I took this with MY camera. And posted it here on the blog. Truly 2011 is going to be a banner year! I was trying to decide what to write about today and remembered this cute picture and decided to blog about sisters. While I was preparing part of supper I was thinking of Abby. We don't get to talk ear to ear much. For reasons that are out of our control we only get to text each other most of the time. Sadly, I can go a week without hearing her cute voice on the other end of my phone. Its a good thing we get each other's text humor!! While I was thinking of all of this, she was calling me. But since I wasn't at my desk I didn't notice that my phone was vibrating. When I saw that she called, it just made me sick that I had missed the opportunity to get to talk to her. She called to tell me she had heard a song that I love. One Touch by Nicole C. Mullen . Have you heard it? Its on her Sharecroppers Seed cd and it is an awesome song...

The Gratitude Challenge

awkward time funny time proud time We are thankful for sisterhood. We are thankful for the memories of good times, awkward times, funny times, sad times, bad times, scary times, the "I think I will pull your hair out if you don't leave me alone" times, and the "I am so proud of you, sister!" times. God was so good to give us each other. What a blessing to know you have a friend who has lived the same life and understands you better than you want her to! Abby always says Julie was her first friend. What a blessing! This is the first day of the Gratitude Challenge we will do for the month of November. We will try to post something each day. It may be a post by itself, or at the end of a post about our other topics. We will mix it up, so look for it! We want to focus on having a heart of gratitude this month as we prepare for the holiday season. Be sure to comment off and on and tell us what you are thankful for. We all have so many things in which we can show g...

Soul Sisters

Julie is in my town this week...whoo hoo! She invited me to hang out with the pastor's wives on Monday and we were able to get a hug and a fun picture with our blog friend, Judy . She is the mother of the infamous, Kelly of Kelly's Korner . She was as genuine and sweet and she appears on her blog. We loved meeting you in person, Judy! Julie invited me to a luncheon with all these ladies. It was fun to be apart of Julie's world for a bit. I know nothing about being a preachers wife other than watching my Meemaw and now my sister. I enjoyed getting to meet other women like my sister and understand her world a bit more. I love that she reads the Bible on her Kindle...only Julie! Julie has such a heart for ministry. I loved listening to her share bits and pieces of her testimony to these women. She was so real, funny and loving. It made me so proud to call her mine! Julie's Friend Lisa came from another state to speak to the ladies in this fine group. I loved meeting h...

Its Birthday Time!

Today my sweet little sister turns 32! A couple of years ago I posted the following. I have added two other additions to the list to bring it to 32. Which is the number of the day (if you are a Sesame Street fan!) Today, Saturday, is Abby's 30 th birthday. Like most of us, she is probably thinking that she hasn't become the person she thought she would be by the age of 30. So, I took it upon myself to make a list of her accomplishments as a little birthday present to her. If you think of others please leave them in the comments for us to see! Asked Jesus Christ to be the Lord and Savior of her life met and fell in love with the perfect man for her married that man (hi Randall!) planned, designed, and delegated her wedding from 5 hours away has lived in 6 cities since graduating from high school attended three colleges is a member of a sorority graduated from UCA paid off her college loans WAY early sang solos in church has completed a marathon has completed two 5K's has mo...

Forty and Fabulous

Here's a story of a bathing beauty who is now the BIG 40 She has always had a warm smile and soft heart She was born to shop and be a baby mama She always had a little rough and rowdy side Having a sister at the age of 8 was a rude awakening But she was always happy to be bossy to the younger family members Her great legs and loud mouth made her a great cheerleader Boy, she sure is pretty though ...and smart too and a real catch with the older men! Yet a younger man snagged her and made her his bride...a very beautiful bride. And today she is still in-love with her man... and has four beautiful babies. Julie has had four fabulous decades and here's to many, many more! Happy 40 th Julia Kathryn!

A+ Teacher

It is Teacher Appreciation Week and I give my sister this fabulous award. The responsibility she has each school day is more than I can fathom. I may run from meeting to meeting all day long and think my plate is full, but it does not touch the weight she carries on her each day as she teaches school to her four children. I am so proud of my sister for wearing a mom hat and a teacher hat at the same time. Her job is huge, yet it must be so rewarding to see the little light bulbs go off in their eyes as they "get it". Here's to you, Homeschool Teacher Of The Year! Abby From Julie : Thank you Abby. It brought tears to my eyes. I know homeschooling is hard to understand, both the desire and the "how to" of it. Thanks for the appreciation. You are so sweet! And did you know that Abby took Henry's teachers breakfast this morning? Including two kinds of milk. I'm hoping one kind wasn't formula!! I'm sure it wasn't.

Days

"There will be days which are great and everything goes as planned. There will be other days when we aren't sure why we got out of bed. Regardless of which day it is, we can be assured that God takes care of our daily needs." Emilie Barnes My sister gave me a daily flip calendar my freshman year of college. it is only dated by the day, not the year. I am using it for the 12th year and love it just as much as I did the first year. Julie initialed the days that had quotes that she wanted me to pay close attention to. The quote above is today's quote and it is initialed in cursive "JKB". I love it because it is always on days I really need it...and she did this 12 years ago. I needed to read that this morning after a whirlwind week of work chaos. I always rest in knowing that tomorrow may be the greatest day ever and to look forward to that hope. Also, today really isn't that bad...I have work when others do not. And, I have work that I enjoy and fits my sk...

Our Favorite Things About Being Sisters

We Share The Same Expressions We laugh, cry and get mad at the same things (This was not always a blessing when we lived at home) We Share the Same Soul We know what one another is really saying beneath all the words ( It is scary at times, but it is nice to know we can't hide) We Share The Same Family It is most fun to share love for the same group of people (And we love having girl cousins, a lot . It means more sisters!) We Share the Same Memories Our interpretation of things are usually different, yet the memories are still the same (We always laugh recounting stories to one another. It is so funny to see what the other one remembers) Mama - Can you see the bulb tree in this pic? We Share The Same History We have the same roots that define who we are We hope you have enjoyed A few of our favorite things this week! Tell us what are some of your favorite things are about your sister, brother, Facebook , beauty aids, or just any random thing?

Focused On My Sister

Skutt Sisters Christmas 2005 Can you say "Big Pink"?! I was going through my senior portfolio from college the other night. Being a communications major, I did lots of writing and speaking. I was also a family science minor so I did many family studies. Reading the interview I had with my parents about raising me was priceless. Yet, the papers I did on my sister really opened my eyes to how much I look up to her. She was honestly the focus of most of my family projects and any other creative communications projects I was assigned. She and I went through our parents divorce right around that time and we really had to help each other come up and breathe some days. Our reality of life was changing after we were grown and that was hard on both of us even though we were so far apart in life. She was married with a baby and I was deciding where to go to school. We were already very close but that stepping stone in our life caused us to bond together like crazy glue. I loved lookin...
