Food Friday

This week I have been busy creating sugary happiness!
I love to do it. I am not a perfectionist by any means. I know there are those who can make things much prettier and they surely must be appauld at my work. I used to look at other blogs and food sites and get anxious and doubt myself but I got over it. I just like doing it and I do it with love. I like to think that love covers the runny icing...ha!

I decorated this cake during the second half of the Arkansas/Alabama game. I could not stand to watch it anymore. It was making me nervous. I am a big fan of Alabama's #75 ...but an Arkansas girl. It was more than I could take. I put Henry in his little car (walker) and we went in the kitchen. He chewed on plastic bowls in his car and I got sticky with icing. His Daddy had ditched us to watch the game with the guys at the farm.

I made the school book retirement cake for my Aunt Babs. This lady is like my second mother. Bless her! She retired from teaching in May and I was thrilled to finally celebrate the monumental occasion with her when she came to see me this week. She loved her cake, of course. It was red velvet and lemon. An odd mixture, but I am all about branching out and experimenting these days.
I just love to see a persons face light up when they see a cake made just for them. It is such a neat moment.
My little foodie would not pose well for this photo. Even poor little Joseph looked at the camera from his bottle feeding, but not Henry. 4 tries...no cigar.
Henry is promoting to the mobile infant room Monday. This is his last day with these 2 sweet "makeshift mamas". I could cry about it, but I am trying not to. They have loved Henry since he was 17 weeks old. Ms. Marybeth and Ms. Stephanie have been a lifesaver and become an extension of our family. There is nothing like these 2 ladies telling my little foodie, "I love you, Henry" when he leaves for the day and watching him grin at them and bat his eyes. I love how they love my baby. His new teachers are super sweet though and these 2 ladies will be right across the hall from his new room. We shall survive.
He has been testing out his new room for a few hours each day. I went to pick him up the other day and he was in his new room entertaining himself while his friends ate snacks and such. He is not a snacker yet...yet...I say! He had no idea I was standing at the door when I took this. I loved it.

For Ms. Marybeth and Ms. Stephanie.
I made these cookie bouquets.
I dipped Oreos in melting chocolate and put them on a cookie stick with a little icing decor gone mad (it looked like Henry helped...ha!). I secured them in floral foam inside a little tin. I put polka dot tissue paper inside the tins to cover the floral foam and tied ribbons around each stick and on the tin handles. I racked my brain on what to do for them as a "thank you" and this is what I came up with. I also gave each of them a personal note of thanks and a sassy tote bag to carry with them each day.
I know most of this post has been about the little foodie, but it can't be Food Friday without a snapshot of him engaging in a food activity. He crawls now. He crawls EVERYWHERE and he is as fast as lightening! I was putting laundry in the washer and I turned around to this. He was opening and closing it, over and over. I said his name to get him to turn around and snapped the picture. He is a little mess!

Happy Food Friday!
Abby
