Food Friday

This week is a rare Food Friday, but a fun one! I also gave my little foodie the week off since it is his birthday!

I was so happy to host my annual (except for last year) cookie & ornament exchange this week. I started having this party the first year we lived in our home in Mississippi. I carried the tradition here with me and had it the first year in J'Town and then took last year off to have a Henry.


I went to a cookie exchange with my aunt and cousin the first year I was married. I loved it. I then when to an ornament exchange that same year with work friends and fell in love with that also. I then decided to combine the two and make it an annual event at my house. Who does not love a cookie and an ornament?!


Melissa always give me a pretty dish towel as a hostess gift. I love that she gave me one with a sassy reindeer on it. She is a sweet ole mess! I also received a cookie cookbook from my dear friend Paula. I love hostess gifts. Something I never think of. You?

We had such a wonderful variety of cookies and a lot of pretty taste testers! It is great to see what everyone makes and then sample all the goodies. I always try to have something salty to add to the mix. Everyone needs a little salt with their sugar!

Sharing the fun with sweet friends is the best. I love having an excuse to get together and laugh.

So many of my sweet friends had not been to a cookie exchange. It was fun to introduce them to the fun and see their eyes light up at the mound of cookies they were toting home to their families.

This year God has blessed me with many new friends. It was so fun to have them all in one place and have them meet one another.

Amanda is my newest friend in J'Town and Katie is my oldest friend in J'Town (We grew up together in the Fort). I loved how they met and hit it off.

Sharing holiday memories and family cookie recipes with my girlfriends is always so much fun.

I love a little dirty Santa for the ornament exchange. It is always a blast to see a little ornament envy!

I recommend a cookie exchange if you do not already host one, or attend one. It is a simple event to host. Some people are really strict about their cookie exchange...not me. I have them bring 4 dozen cookies. 1 to eat at the party and 3 to exchange. We put the 3 dozen on the dining room table and form a circle and go around and take cookies until they are gone. It is a loud, sugary, happy mess!
I make wassail, have some sodas and a salty dish or two. I make sure my house is decorated and turn on some Christmas music......party time!!

The wassail recipe will come later with a post of some Christmas favorites...stay tuned! It is a hit and the bowl is always dry at the end of the party.

8 years ago today I met this sweet man in the picture above. We met on a blind date in the Bluff City (aka- Memfrica). He and I were simply going out to shut up his stepmother and my sister, who had decided that we were meant to be together from one simple fridge photo and a dog named Abby. All Aboard The Birthday Polar Express

  Can you believe Henry Patton will be 4 years old tomorrow?! Neither can we. We celebrated his birthday last weekend with his first all boy party, polar express style. I had so much fun preparing for it, as you can probably tell! My mother who is never at a loss for words said it looked like Polar Express threw up in my house. She was SO right and we loved it! We had a breakfast pajama party with 7 three and four year old boys. It was such a fun time.   I had his pajamas monogrammed with a train and his name. He loved them and I liked how they sort of looked like the ones on the movie. Henry loved all the bells I had everywhere. There is no doubt we believe at this house. We had the jingle loud and proud!   I had his invitation made from a shop on Etsy and I was very pleased with them. One of his little friends came to the door ready for me to punch his ticket.
