A Hairy Ride Of Hope

Tomorrow Henry will get his first haircut.
I have cried about it, but it has to be done. That poor boy is starting to look like a hairy monster. He has lots of of curls right on the top of his head (just like me) and they get droopy by the end of the day. He also has hair growing over his ears. It should be a real interesting event. I have the video camera and digital camera charged and ready. Randall is able to go with us and I am so glad. I love that he makes it a point to make sure his schedule allows for him to take part in all of Henry's big moments. Be on watch for a haircut post this weekend!
Thanks to my pal Lashay, this is my new jog stroller.
I bought it from her for an overly reasonable price...and I am stoked about it. I started running last week (when I turned 32...it is my year people!) and I am on fire! I am running 3 days a week way before daylight (the moon was beautiful this morning...just sayin!) with some sweet young mamas and we run a nice 3 to 4 mile route. I love having someone to talk to. I really think that is how I ran 26.2 in 2004. I talked all through my runs. You put me out there alone and I fold, give up, quit. Running and talking go together for me. On the days I don't run I am trying to walk with LaShay. Tomorrow she can't go so I am making Randall and Henry go with me...3.5 miles of hills. I may have to post about that...should be interesting!
Next week I will have to take Henry with me for my early morning runs so I am glad to not have to try to make the ole Evenflo keep up with me, thanks to the new stroller. I threatened to take my Evenflo with me and my running buddy and my sweet husband assured me that was not a good idea. So, thanks to LaShay buying a new double jog stroller for boys, Henry has a running ride!

My Mama was part of BSF for years when I was growing up. She loved it and always knew so much about the Bible. After talking with some of my friends, I decided to go today and join. I was amazed to find so many women in my town that I had never seen before. God is so good in showing me new faces and new experiences lately. Anyway, I am not sure if there is a discussion group open for my age group or not. I am praying I get a call or email saying they have a spot for me. I think it is a good problem that they are at capacity...lots of women wanting to study God's word, but I will be sad if I can't be part of it. So, we shall wait, pray and see!

So tell me:
How was your baby's first haircut -
did they scream and did you cry?
Do you take your baby on trail walks and/or pavement runs -
what kind of stroller do you use?
Are you in BSF or have you been in BSF -
tell me about your experience?

Sadly, we have not ever cut Samantha's hair since it is STILL not long enough for a haircut. My baby was bald when she was born and we chuckle when we look back at other pictures of her from even a year ago. She has definitely grown more hair, but it is still quite short yet.

I know that I will be sad when we finally get a chance to trim it up, but I will also be excited that she will finally have enough hair and not be confused for being a boy!

Make sure to post "before" and "after" pictures -- you will be glad that you did ...

I, like Abby, was born with naturally curly hair. My mama dressed me funny and didn't cut my hair for a long time. She never let me wear it real short, so when I was 12, my dad and I went to the barber shop and I asked dad if I could get a FLAT TOP. He said, "sure." So, I got a FLAT TOP and away we went home. Well, my mama was not happy at all ! She didn't say a whole lot to me but my Daddy may has well have been a priest instead of a baptist minister...because he became celebate that day without taking a vow.
It was not a fun night at our house !

Way to go on your running!! I am wanting to get back into running as well and have been looking for a good deal on a jogging stroller. I ran the memphis half marathon in December 2006 and haven't done much since. You have inspired me to be more serious about it and get back into it! Thanks! :)

And best of luck with Henry's haircut!!
I cut Hannah's hair myself when she was about 2. She hardly had any hair to speak of, but a couple of stylists had told me that if I ever wanted it to grown then I was going to have to cut it. I did and it came in quickly after that.

Janson was about 8 months when he got his first haircut and it was at a barber. He did really well at it and looked so big afterward. We've been getting it cut regularly since then. He's pretty good now, but there was a rough patch in the middle.

I did not cry...for either of them. It's just hair.

A Blind Date & Leaving Comments

8 years ago today I met this sweet man in the picture above. We met on a blind date in the Bluff City (aka- Memfrica). He and I were simply going out to shut up his stepmother and my sister, who had decided that we were meant to be together from one simple fridge photo and a dog named Abby. Little did we know they would be able to pat themselves on the back for the rest of their lives . I am so glad we both agreed to go out for that one date on New Years Eve 2001 because I have had him in my life everyday since that crazy night at my cousin Hollye's back door when he arrived to pick me up to find a baby on my hip that he thought was mine. I remember those beautiful blue eyes and how they about popped out of his head as he stood at the door wondering why no one had mentioned my child. That baby on my hip was Claire. She was 1 then and had just gone number 2 in her diaper right before he rang the bell. She had Styrofoam all over her and me from playing in Christmas boxes. Needless t

All Aboard The Birthday Polar Express

Can you believe Henry Patton will be 4 years old tomorrow?! Neither can we. We celebrated his birthday last weekend with his first all boy party, polar express style. I had so much fun preparing for it, as you can probably tell! My mother who is never at a loss for words said it looked like Polar Express threw up in my house. She was SO right and we loved it! We had a breakfast pajama party with 7 three and four year old boys. It was such a fun time.   I had his pajamas monogrammed with a train and his name. He loved them and I liked how they sort of looked like the ones on the movie. Henry loved all the bells I had everywhere. There is no doubt we believe at this house. We had the jingle loud and proud!   I had his invitation made from a shop on Etsy and I was very pleased with them. One of his little friends came to the door ready for me to punch his ticket. It was so cute. I ran to get a hole punch and punched it for him. Every good party has to have go

Pedicure Pledge

Just a friendly reminder, it's that time of the year again. Please raise your big toes and repeat after me: As a member of the Sandal Sisterhood, I pledge to follow The Rules when I wear sandals and other open-toe shoes: I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps. I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow. I will shave the hairs off my big toe. I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there. If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back in to place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. No matter how much it hurts. I will
