T-Day in J'Town with the In-Laws

We hosted our first Thanksgiving. Since we have a home that entertains well, we decided to bring Rand's Dad, step-mom, sister and her family to J'Town for turkey. I loved watching the Macy's T-Day parade from my very own TV. I have not done that since I was growing up at home. Anyway, hosting it was a lot of fun and a lot of work. I am very blessed that it all turned out so well. My smoked turkey was a bit dry, but we had so much other good stuff, that it didn't matter. I made my first gravy, ever! Giblet and brown gravy without any help...I must pat myself on the back, if that is okay. I have a few pictures of the day...enjoy!
This was the first time I had an excuse to use my Meemaw's Gravy Boat (or as wee like to call it, "The Skutt family Gravy Boat"...makes it sound real fancy.)I also got to use my great-great grandmother's serving spoon. It was really cool to polish such special heirlooms.
This is Rand's step-mom, Molly.
I am blessed to have her as my Mother-in-law. She hand washed the dishes and dried them for me.
I loved that!

This is Molly's baby. Can't you see the pride in her smile!
She has raised him like her own since he was a wee little lad.

This is Rand's sister, Misty. We rarely get together with her, so this was a treat.

Molly's girl. She was so glad to get a pic with Misty. I love that it was made at our home.
Special memories were made, I hope.

My sister-in-law and me. We had a fun day together.

These are serious shoppers. Rand's Dad, nephew and niece weeding out the deals for Black Friday.
(I think Katlyn was actually looking at my wedding album, but oh well.)

Priceless. Misty's son, Bobby was totally wowed by the rotating ornaments.
I loved his face..he was so still and had such a look of wonder.

Happy Thanksgiving from J'Town. Black Friday is coming early. I best get to making my lists.
I have to be at Sears at 5:00 am for some power tools and to Lowe's for some other "garbage". Why, you ask? Because my husband is duck hunting and I have to do it for him. Yes, I know... I am way too good to the man.

A Blind Date & Leaving Comments

8 years ago today I met this sweet man in the picture above. We met on a blind date in the Bluff City (aka- Memfrica). He and I were simply going out to shut up his stepmother and my sister, who had decided that we were meant to be together from one simple fridge photo and a dog named Abby. Little did we know they would be able to pat themselves on the back for the rest of their lives . I am so glad we both agreed to go out for that one date on New Years Eve 2001 because I have had him in my life everyday since that crazy night at my cousin Hollye's back door when he arrived to pick me up to find a baby on my hip that he thought was mine. I remember those beautiful blue eyes and how they about popped out of his head as he stood at the door wondering why no one had mentioned my child. That baby on my hip was Claire. She was 1 then and had just gone number 2 in her diaper right before he rang the bell. She had Styrofoam all over her and me from playing in Christmas boxes. Needless t

All Aboard The Birthday Polar Express

Can you believe Henry Patton will be 4 years old tomorrow?! Neither can we. We celebrated his birthday last weekend with his first all boy party, polar express style. I had so much fun preparing for it, as you can probably tell! My mother who is never at a loss for words said it looked like Polar Express threw up in my house. She was SO right and we loved it! We had a breakfast pajama party with 7 three and four year old boys. It was such a fun time.   I had his pajamas monogrammed with a train and his name. He loved them and I liked how they sort of looked like the ones on the movie. Henry loved all the bells I had everywhere. There is no doubt we believe at this house. We had the jingle loud and proud!   I had his invitation made from a shop on Etsy and I was very pleased with them. One of his little friends came to the door ready for me to punch his ticket. It was so cute. I ran to get a hole punch and punched it for him. Every good party has to have go
