Happy Birthday To My Sister

Happy Birthday to my sister tomorrow!
29 years ago I went to my 3rd grade class and waited rather impatiently for my Dad to call and tell me that I had a sister. My classroom was next door to the office, and every time I heard the phone ring, I got so excited! But it was never Dad. A friend of our family picked me up from school and took me to her house to stay until Mom had the baby. We ate supper and still no phone call from Dad, I took a bath and got ready for bed and still no phone call from Dad. Finally, after hearing on the news that there was a killer on the loose in town, and being terribly frightened that out of all the houses in Ft Smith, he would somehow pick out the one I was in and I would never see my baby sister, my Dad called. I had a baby sister named Abby Jo. I was so excited!

I would love to say that I was always excited to have a sister named Abby Jo, but there were quite a few years that neither of us were excited to be related. We fought and fought, but we loved also. We were each others defenders, and sad to say, offenders.
Abby was with me when my very first date picked me up on Halloween night. She was dressed up as Cyndi Lauper/Tina Turner. Her hair was 3 different colors and her clothes were quite something to behold. I was so embarrased, but she loved it. I took her on many dates after that. (not with the first date guy, he didn't ask me out after that- I kinda blame it on Abby!HA!HA!)

I heard a song on the radio yesterday that reminded me of her. It was "You are the sun, you are the rain" by Lionel Richie. I could just see her singing it loudly and dancing around our shared bedroom. What a wonderful Abby. We have so many stories about growing up, we could probably write a blog a day telling stories about each other.

Abby is a wonderful, mouthy, thoughtful, bossy, compassionate, neat-freak, loving, talkative, kind, curly-headed, energetic, thoughtful, friendly, daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend. She is loved by everyone she meets. It is an honor that God put her in my family. I am proud to call her sister, and even prouder to call her friend. I love you Abby Jo!!
Happy Birthday!
Next year you are 30!!!!!

Ok, you made me cry! You made me laugh too because I think only I could be Cyndi & Tina all at once. What talent I always had! I always love hearing you talk about the night I was born - the belching at the dinner table, the killer and the call. I MISS YOU!

This made me laugh! The Cyndi Lauper thing really got me laughing. I can so see Abby doing that. I can remember how y'all would fight when we were little and Julie, you never wanted us around. Can't say I blame you :) But it is neat how close y'all are now. Abby, I hope you have a wonderful 29th birthday!!! Love ya!

what a priceless blog from julie. sure wish i had known you were waiting on that call all day. i would have made sure you were kept in touch. abby is all you said she is. and i remember spraying her hair all those colors. that wasn't easy. but only abby would want to look like that! it was a perfect costume. and i remember julie's date. he probably still remembers that night. if you all just knew who he is. so proper! happy birthday little abby. you were just 2 weeks late and had to be induced 2 times to even get you here. but it was worth the wait for sure. i love you bunches. thanks julie for your memories and love for your sister.

I wish I had known you were waiting all day for me to call. I don't remember all the details other than The doctor coming out of delivery room and cussing a tirade about how hot it was in there. My Dad and Your Pappaw stood there with their mouths open at the language coming out of the man's mouth.
You and Abby were and still are special sisters. I'm glad I could raise you both so properly (with a little help from Yo Momma...Ha!)
I love you both so very, very much and am so proud of you both.

A Blind Date & Leaving Comments

8 years ago today I met this sweet man in the picture above. We met on a blind date in the Bluff City (aka- Memfrica). He and I were simply going out to shut up his stepmother and my sister, who had decided that we were meant to be together from one simple fridge photo and a dog named Abby. Little did we know they would be able to pat themselves on the back for the rest of their lives . I am so glad we both agreed to go out for that one date on New Years Eve 2001 because I have had him in my life everyday since that crazy night at my cousin Hollye's back door when he arrived to pick me up to find a baby on my hip that he thought was mine. I remember those beautiful blue eyes and how they about popped out of his head as he stood at the door wondering why no one had mentioned my child. That baby on my hip was Claire. She was 1 then and had just gone number 2 in her diaper right before he rang the bell. She had Styrofoam all over her and me from playing in Christmas boxes. Needless t

All Aboard The Birthday Polar Express

Can you believe Henry Patton will be 4 years old tomorrow?! Neither can we. We celebrated his birthday last weekend with his first all boy party, polar express style. I had so much fun preparing for it, as you can probably tell! My mother who is never at a loss for words said it looked like Polar Express threw up in my house. She was SO right and we loved it! We had a breakfast pajama party with 7 three and four year old boys. It was such a fun time.   I had his pajamas monogrammed with a train and his name. He loved them and I liked how they sort of looked like the ones on the movie. Henry loved all the bells I had everywhere. There is no doubt we believe at this house. We had the jingle loud and proud!   I had his invitation made from a shop on Etsy and I was very pleased with them. One of his little friends came to the door ready for me to punch his ticket. It was so cute. I ran to get a hole punch and punched it for him. Every good party has to have go

Pedicure Pledge

Just a friendly reminder, it's that time of the year again. Please raise your big toes and repeat after me: As a member of the Sandal Sisterhood, I pledge to follow The Rules when I wear sandals and other open-toe shoes: I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps. I will go polish-free or vow to keep the polish fresh, intact and chip-free. I will not cheat and just touch up my big toe. I will sand down any mounds of skin before they turn hard and yellow. I will shave the hairs off my big toe. I won't wear pantyhose even if my misinformed girlfriend, coworker, mother, sister tells me the toe seam really will stay under my toes if I tuck it there. If a strap breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back in to place hoping it will stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it. No matter how much it hurts. I will
