I don't often write anything about Samuel. Mainly because of his age, but I'm making an exception today.
This time last year we were talking and praying about Samuel taking a class in public school and playing baseball. After much discussion and prayer we enrolled him in geometry and baseball in our district's high school.
You remember high school right? In 10h grade friendships have been made. By this time, people have chosen who they want to hang with and who they don't. In this school district there are a four elementary schools, one jr high, and one high school. By the 10th grade, everyone knows the ins and outs of everyone. Friendships have been solidified.
Samuel was walking into a school where he knew just a few people, and none of them were that kind of good friend that we want on the first day.
Samuel walked into the school for the first time on the first day of class. I had been to the school, and knew where his classroom was, but he had been out of town and missed the opportunity. I dropped him off the first morning of school, he walked in like he had been going to school everyday of his life.
Later that day I took him to baseball. He was just 15, so I was still driving him around. We hadn't met the coach, didn't know any of the players, we didn't have a clue where to even go! We finally found where he was supposed to be, the coach was standing outside, told Samuel where to go, patted my car and told me he'd take care of him.
And he did. Samuel made friends, he made A's in geometry and he played baseball. All of our goals were met and succeeded! It was a good year.
Well last week we met the football coach. Stephen ran into him and the coach mentioned he needed a kicker and asked about Samuel. Samuel loves sports, all sports. If there is a ball, he is in! Once again we prayed, discussed, wrung our hands, prayed, and discussed. And Monday, Samuel went to football practice, kicked a few footballs, and made the team.
Samuel has played football one time. One game after about five practices, when he was 11. He knows the game, loves the game, but has not played the game. Until now.
My homeschooled son is now a two sport, algebra 2 taking public high school student! I'm really proud of him. Samuel has always been older than his years, but he is living 16 well. He's smart, funny, ambitious (where sports are concerned) and loves his momma. He loves the Lord, and I pray that he stays humble and is a shining example of Gods love.
I don't often tell him how proud I am of him. I'm changing that today. Sam, I'm proud of you! Love you!
