We headed to the Lights Over The Delta this week. It is our annual Christmas tradition. We started going when Henry was 2 weeks old. I take him out of his car seat each year and sit him in my lap. He came alive when he saw the lights this year. It was a fabulous mommy moment, I must say. Look at that little face saying, "look at that!".
This is my favorite part of the display. We drive through the Snow Village and enter a wonderland of lighted Christmas treasures. Henry was over stimulated a little bit, as you can imagine. It was wonderful fun.
We stopped at the halfway point to get hot chocolate. a Santa sucker, and our dated ornament that we purchase each year. They are the ugliest ornaments known to man, but it is a must purchase for my tree. I love our memories made in the truck at their light display each year.
He was loving the Santa on the motorcycle and the Greyhound Bus a whole, whole lot. We had to ask him to calm down a few times. It was getting pretty rowdy up in the truck. He was so excited!
When he saw Santa driving a red car out of a trailer truck he lost it. If you know Henry well, you know he is a sucker for anything red, a car and a tractor trailer truck. It was a visual dream come true!
The greatest part of the drive thru display was when he spotted the nativity and the stars and said "Look, its the manger and Baby Jesus!" It melts my heart he recognizes the meaning of Christmas and gets as excited about it as he does Santa on a motorcycle or a Greyhound Bus. The red car coming out of the truck trumped it all though, but we can work on that! ha.
Sharing Christmas with Henry is the best. We of course stopped to sit in the snowman chair in Monette, as always. It was so cold and Henry was past bedtime so it was a struggle to get a photo, but we took what we could get.
Sharing Christmas with Henry means sharing our gifts and blessings with others. I know he really has no clue what all this is about just yet, but I think starting them young will only help build a strong foundation. We adopted two preschoolers in our church to buy Christmas gifts for. Another lady, Henry's VBS teacher that he adored this summer, took their toy wish list and we took their clothes. We used a Wal-Mart gift card from Henry's piggy bank to put toward some of the gifts. I loved knowing he had a part in the giving, even though he didn't really know he did. We bought them each a dress outfit, pajamas, jeans, a casual shirt, and coats. It was so much fun to know who we were helping. I love that our church does their own angel tree with the families in our church who need our help.
Christmas is not just what is wrapped up in pretty packages, it is about love and that loves comes from the greatest gift of all, Jesus. As we take these 2 bags to church with us to give to these sweet little kiddos, I am reminded of this simple and special truth. Letting our light shine in this most festive of seasons. The real meaning of Christmas. I love it.
